Matewan Mine Wars Museum Opens March 31st

MATEWAN, WVa | The West Virginia Mine Wars Museum will open this month.


The museum is located at 401 Mate Street in the town of Matewan. The town is the center of the mine wars legacy and the sight of the shoot out between Baldwin-Felts agents and Chief of Police SId Hatfield.


The Museum's mission includes preserving the voices of the people who lived these stories of sacrifice, violence, and triumph.

Museum's operating season officially begins Thursday, March 31 and will be open Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.


Appointments for group and school tours are currently accepted.
