The Mingo County Board of Education voted 4-1 Monday evening to require masks at schools.
For the first week of school, parents were allowed to send a form to school saying their family was opting out of using masks and they did not want their child to wear a mask at school.
However, after a quick outbreak at schools, the board has reversed that decision.
The board will reevaluate the policy Oct. 19 or earlier if case numbers significantly drop before then.
Masks would not be required if the county falls into the green or yellow categories on the state’s COVID-19 color map.
