Monday Roundup: Logan plates 15 in third defeats Poca, Chapmanville runs winning streak to eight

POCA Class AA No. 3 Logan sent 18 batters to the plate in the third inning scoring 13 runs on eight hits, eight walks and one error in a 19-1 five-inning mercy rule win over Poca Monday night.


The first 17 batters reached base safely for the Wildcats. Logan (10-7) ran into two outs on the basepaths before Jack Tusing struck out Jarron Glick to end the third inning.


Thirteen players had at least one hit for Logan and nine players had at least one RBI. Drew Berry, Cole Blankenship and Ivan Miller each had two hits for Logan.


Millers was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored while Blankenship went 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and two runs and Berry finished 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.


Four Logan pitchers combined to hold Poca to one run on three hits. Garrett Williamson got the win after pitching two innings of hitless baseball. He walked two and struck out two and also drove in a run at the plate for the Wildcats.


Jarron Glick allowed one run on three hits and struck out one in his inning of work. Aiden Slack struck out one batter in a hitless inning of relief and Ryan Roberts allowed no hits, walked one and struck out two in one inning pitched.


Nolan Payne was the losing pitcher for Poca (2-10) after allowing six runs on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts in two innings.


Hunter Tusing had a single and one RBI for Poca and Garrett Miller and Hayden Thompson each had one hit.


Devin Maynard and Slack each had one hit and drove in two runs, Tanner Akers and Dawson Maynard had one hit and one RBI each for Logan.


Chase Ellis, Glick, Gage Hensley, McCormick Ilderton, Konner Lowe and Jake Ramey all had one hit apiece and Chase Hatfield had one RBI for the Wildcats. Ilderton scored three runs and Hatfield and Lowe each crossed the plate twice.


Chapmanville 8, Winfield 5

Jacob Topping struck out 12 in 6 2/3 innings and Andrew Farley hit a solo home run as Class AA No. 1 Chapmanville defeated fifth-ranked Winfield Monday night at Ted Ellis Field.


Topping allowed two runs on six hits and walked four and went 1-for-3 at the plate with one RBI. Farley went 2-for-4 with a home run in his second consecutive game. Luke Knight was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Brody Dalton 2-for-4 with a run driven in for Chapmanville, who won their eighth straight game and improved to 13-2 on the season.


Karson Frye allowed eight hits and four runs in five innings for Winfield. He struck out seven and walked five. Brycen Brown went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored and Dylan Kuhl was 2-for-4 for the Generals.


Maddox Shaffer went 1-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs, Brett Bumgarner and Grey Miller had one hit each and one RBI apiece. Xavier Hensley and Blake Withrow each had one hit.


Trey Butcher, Joey Canterbury and Talan Thompson each had one hit and Eli Surgoine scored two runs for Chapmanville.
