Morgan Cooper tosses one-hitter as Lady Hillbillies run-rule Lady Wildcats

MAN Morgan Cooper tossed a one-hitter for Man as the Lady Hillbillies defeated county rival Logan 8-0 in five innings Monday evening at the Man Softball Complex.


Cooper struck out 11 and walked two and didn’t allow a hit until Harlee Quick singled with two outs in the fourth inning for Logan’s lone hit of the evening.


Kaylee Hicks had three hits including a double and triple and drove in four runs while Baylee Muncy added a pair of doubles for Man (6-1). Ashlee Tomblin had one hit and two RBIs and Jacklyn Barnett, McKinlee Cline, Trista Marcum and Olivia Ramsey each had one hit for the Lady Hillbillies.


The game was scoreless after two innings before Man broke through with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.


Hicks singled to center to score Marcum and Tomblin had a two-run double to score Cline and Hicks giving Man a 3-0 lead after three innings.


Hicks tripled in the fourth to score Muncy and Ramsey to give Man a 5-0 lead.


Man extended its lead to 6-0 when Cline reached on an error scoring Hicks and Tomblin’s RBI groundout scored Cooper giving Man a 7-0 lead after four innings.


Muncy doubled with one out in the fifth inning and Hicks followed with her second double of the evening to plate Muncy for the run-rule victory.


Chloe Bryant allowed seven runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked one in the loss. Quick tossed one inning of relief allowing one run on two hits and one walk.


Logan (5-9) will host Mingo Central Tuesday evening at Bea Orr Field.


Man will travel to Westside Wednesday evening and return home Thursday to host Chapmanville.
