New consolidated elementary school under construction in Martin County, Kentucky

In Martin County, Kentucky, a new elementary school currently under construction will consolidate students from Inez and Warfield.

INEZ Martin County Schools Superintendent Larry James said the new facility makes sense, considering his school district has been shrinking and the current elementary schools in the two communities are over 40 years old.
Moreover, James pointed to the geography of Warfield as a factor in the decision. The community being situated on a flood plain has made renovation projects at that facility exceedingly difficult.
The new school building is being built near the Inez area.
The project will cost the Commonwealth of Kentucky around $33 million. The school district’s portion of that total is approximately $500,000. The construction contract for $24 million has been awarded to Rising Sun Developing.
Construction of the new Martin County Elementary School is expected to wrap up in August 2028. Once completed, the school will serve students in grades pre-K through 6th grade.
