THREE MILE CURVE An investigation is underway following a fatal crash on Route 10 this afternoon in Logan.


A two vehicle crash occurred on the new West Virginia Route 10 four-lane near the Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center.


According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in around 1:46 p.m. to Logan County 911. Two vehicles, in a T-bone crash, sustained heavy damage when a GMC truck entered Route 10 from Vocational School Road. The truck traveled into the northbound lanes of Route 10 and into the path of a Chevy Equinox traveling north, according to a press release from the deputies.


Police say 73-year-old Arnold Oney, of Grayson, Kentucky and was found deceased when deputies arrived. Oney was alone driving the northbound Equinox


The GMC entering the highway was driven by 21-year-old Marshall Welch, of Clendenin. According to the sheriff’s office, Welch was injured and transported to Logan Regional Medical Center. Welch was the only occupant in the truck that subsequently caught fire following the crash.


This investigation is being handled by Deputies Carter and Johnson.
