One dead in 2 vehicle crash on 119 near Chapmanville

CHAPMANVILLE A Lincoln County man died as a result of T-bone car crash on US Route 119.


Deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Department say 83-year-old Franklin Perry, of Alkol, was killed when his vehicle was involved in the collision before 10 o’clock Thursday morning.


According to investigators, Perry was pulling out of Thornhill Chevrolet lot to travel north on 119 and pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle as he crossed the southbound lanes.


The southbound vehicle was driven by Logan High School coach Kevin Gertz of Hewitt. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, Gertz had non-capacitating injuries and was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center. He was later discharged.


Crash is still under investigation.
