Prep Baseball Roundup: Logan & Man Open Season With Road Wins

WAYNE, WVa Logan exploded for 12 second inning runs to open the season with a 17-3 victory over the Wayne Pioneers Monday night at Wayne High School.

The Wildcats (1-0) plated a run in the first, 12 in the second and two each in the third and fifth innings while pounding out 14 hits in the five-inning contest.

Korbin Bostic, Jared Burnette and Dawson Maynard excelled at the plate for Logan.

Bostic was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Burnette finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and drove in three while Maynard went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

William Bryant, Levi Kazee, Ryan Roberts, Aiden Slack and Garrett Williamson each had a hit and drove in a run. Slack doubled and scored three times while Chase Hatfield and McCormick Ilderton each singled. Logan got RBIs from Cole Blankenship, Chad Burnette and Jake Ramey.

Chad Burnette picked up the win for Logan after allowing one unearned run on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks in three innings of work. Jared Burnette tossed two innings of relief allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Levi Cassidy had two hits and Fisher Fry, Brayden Jackson and Braxton Marcum each had one hit for the Pioneers. Fry and Marcum each drove in a run while Payton Davis scored two runs.

Wayne used three different pitchers, starting with Parker Adkins. Adkins suffered the loss after allowing 10 earned runs on eight hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Marcum allowed five runs on two hits and five walks in 2/3 innings of work. Eli Steele pitched the final three innings and allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

Wayne (1-1) is scheduled to host Nitro Tuesday night before traveling to Point Pleasant on Thursday.

Logan travels to Winfield on Friday before opening its home portion of the schedule Saturday afternoon against Independence.

MAN 4, SCOTT 3: Sophomore Bo Thompson tossed a complete game as Man opened the season with a 4-3 road win at Scott Monday night.

Thompson allowed three runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out six in seven innings as Man (1-0) scored all its runs in the top of the second inning.

Drake Veres had three hits including a double for Man. Preston Blankenship had two hits, one of which a double, and drove in two runs while Brady Hall-Montgomery had two hits and one RBI and Jace Adkins had a single, triple and one RBI. The Hillbillies also got hits from Colton Miller and Thompson.

Hunter Null suffered the loss for Scott after allowing four runs on 11 hits in seven innings. Null struck out eight and walked none.

Luke Knight had two hits and one RBI and Brady Carrico added two hits for Scott. Dylan Grant had a hit and drove in one run while Austin Light doubled and Cooper Martin singled for the Skyhawks.

Scott (1-2) will travel to Winfield on Tuesday while Man will host Mingo Central.
