Prep Roundup: Logan, Chapmanville pick up home wins; Lady Tigers fall on the road


Scotty Browning had 23 points to lead three Logan players in double figures, and the Class AAA No. 1 Wildcats continued their dominance of sectional opponents to defeat Lincoln County 83-43 Tuesday night at Willie Akers Arena.

Logan improved to 5-0 against Class AA Region 4 Section 2 competition this season and has outscored sectional opponents 443-277 in those five games this season.

Jackson Tackett had 11 points and Jaxon Cogar 10 for Logan, who outscored Lincoln County, 44-22, in the second half. Logan trailed 14-13 after one quarter but led 29-21 at halftime before pulling away from the Panthers in the second half.

Cam Blevins had 13 and Willis Graham 12 for Lincoln County.

Lincoln County (4-12) will host Ripley Wednesday.

Logan (16-1) will host county rival and Class AA No. 7 Chapmanville Wednesday. The Wildcats defeated the Tigers 56-48 at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium on Friday.

Chapmanville 66, Scott 63: Devin Workman hit a 3 with under a second to play as Class AA No. 7 Chapmanville rallied from a 10-point third quarter deficit to defeat Scott 66-63 Tuesday night at Danny Godby Gymnasium.

The Tigers led 21-13 after one quarter before Scott outscored them 25-10 in the second quarter to take a 38-31 halftime lead. Scott increased its advantage to 53-43 after three quarters before being outscored 23-10 by the Tigers in the final quarter.

Zion Blevins led all scorers with 19 points, Brody Dalton had 18 and Workman 10 for the Tigers.

Issac Setser had 15 and Reece Carden 12 for the Skyhawks.

Scott (11-8) will host Ripley Friday night.

Chapmanville (11-8) will face county rival and Class AAA No. 1 Logan Wednesday night at Willie Akers Arena.

PREP GIRLS

Lincoln County 46, Chapmanville 45: Lincoln County outscored Chapmanville 16-10 in the third quarter to erase a five-point halftime deficit and hold on for a 46-45 victory over the Class AA No. 9 Tigers Tuesday night at Lincoln County High School.

Kenley Kveton led all scorers with 19 while Gracie Clay had 11 and Avery Lucas 10 for Lincoln County.

Jaiden Mahon and Chloe Thompson each had 11 and Haley Fleming 10 for Chapmanville.

Lincoln County (6-11) will host reigning Class AAA champion and sixth-ranked Nitro on Thursday.

Chapmanville (10-11) will host Poca Wednesday night at Danny Godby Gymnasium.
