A Boone County man was arrested Monday for allegedly shooting and killing a pregnant woman.
According to Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker, 30-year-old Mitchell Caleb Hughes, of Racine, is accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Ashley Goad near her home in Comfort Monday afternoon. According to the criminal complaint, Goad was looking at friend’s new car outside her home when Hughes arrived and shot her.
Hughes began crime spree with stealing a car in Sylvester. Hughes drove to Comfort where he shot Goad. According to Barker, the investigation indicates the shooting was a random act.
A Boone County Deputy attempted to apprehend the armed suspect but Hughes evaded capture and stole the deputy’s cruiser.
Hughes was eventually captured early Tuesday morning. He was discovered on the porch of residence near Kanawha State Forest.
Hughes is charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the killing of Goad and her unborn baby.
