MAN Man High School got two big plays on special teams as part of a 21-point first quarter in a 41-0 victory over the Westside Renegades Friday night at George A. Queen Memorial Field.

Senior Jordan Adams returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown for a touchdown and senior Jim Green had a 70-yard punt return to set up his own 3-yard touchdown to give Man a 14-0 lead with 7:35 to play in the opening quarter.

From there the Hillbilly defense limited the Renegades to just six first downs and 85 total yards in posting its first home shutout since shutting out Lincoln County, 44-0, on October 4, 2019.

Adams finished with 52 yards rushing on seven attempts and one touchdown and two passes for 24 yards while Jayden Brumfield completed 8 of 12 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Brumfield’s first touchdown pass, a 23-yarder to Jacob Walls, came with 4:08 remaining in the first quarter to give Man a 21-0 lead.

The Hillbillies tacked on a second quarter touchdown as Brumfield hooked up with Lukas Haney for 22-yard touchdown with 1:54 remaining before halftime to give the Hillbillies a 28-0 lead.

The deepest penetration in Hillbilly territory for the Renegades came on their second drive of the second half as they drove to the Man 15, however, the drive stalled on downs and Man took over.

Six plays and 85 yards later, Man found the endzone for a fifth time when freshman Kaleb Mullins raced in from 8-yards out to give Man a 35-0 lead with 1:25 to play in the third quarter.

The Hillbillies made it 41-0 on Adams’ 3-yard run with 2:36 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Kadien Vance completed 7 of 10 passes for 37 yards while Parker Lambert ran for 18 yards on 11 carries and Hunter Cline carried the ball six times for 15 yards for the Renegades who also got five receptions from Kyler Kenneda for 39 yards in the loss.

Chris Isaacs hauled in three passes for 69 yards with Adams catching two balls for 24 yards. Dusten Baisden added 22 yards on seven carries for the Hillbillies.

Westside (1-2) will host Pikeview Friday night at the Burial Ground.

Man (2-1), who expects to be in the top 16 of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission’s initial Class A playoff ratings to be released Tuesday afternoon, will hit the road for four straight weeks beginning Friday at Mingo Central.
