A great West Virginia and true American hero has passed away.
Elaine Purkey, singer, songwriter, activist, and a producer, performer, and host of The Friendly Neighbor Show on WVOW, died on Wednesday on Thomas Memorial Hospital.
She also taught an after-school music program for the Clay Center of Arts and Sciences.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday at Freeman Funeral Home in Chapmanville.
Purkey was 71 years old.
