SHADY SPRING Games are won and lost in the trenches. One of the game’s oldest cliches was on true display Friday night in Class A No. 10 Man’s 41-22 victory over Shady Spring at Thomas Field.

The Hillbilly offensive line of Kaden Dickerson, Houston Ellis, Jairadan Hairston, Lukas Haney, Josh Pierson and Jerry Taber controlled the trenches as Man ran for 408 yards and had three running backs eclipse 100 yards rushing.

Jordan Adams led the way with 154 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jayden Brumfield ran for three scored, tossed for a fourth and ran for 105 yards on nine carries and Jim Green ran for 100 yards on eight carries for the Hillbillies.

Man (6-1), who lost to Logan in its season opener and has won six consecutive games, led 21-14 after three quarters but scored 20 unanswered points to start the fourth quarter and pull away from the Tigers.

Man took a 28-14 lead on Brumfield’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Chris Isaacs with 10:20 to play in the fourth quarter. Brumfield added a 19-yard touchdown run with 4:14 remaining to increase the lead to 35-14 and Adams finished off the Hillbilly fourth quarter spurt with a 37-yard run to increase Man’s lead to 41-14 with 3:15 to play.

Adam Richmond’s 35-yard run, his third touchdown of the evening, and Brady Green’s two-point conversion pass to Gavin Davis cut the deficit to 41-22 with 1:28 to play.

James Sellards ran for 85 yards on 14 carries while Richmond finished with 72 yards on nine carries and three touchdowns. Green completed 16 of his 23 passes for 158 and one interception while Jalon Bailey caught nine passes for 71 yards for the Tigers.

Shady Spring had an opportunity to take an early lead in the first quarter, but 27-yard field goal sailed wide left leaving the game scoreless.

Brumfield scored the first of his three rushing touchdowns with 1:32 remaining as he outran the Tigers defense for a 27-yard touchdown. Jaxon Tipton kicked the first of his five extra points to give Man a 7-0 lead.

Tipton has made his last 23 extra point attempts and is 32 for 36 on the season.
