In high school football action, the Chapmanville Tigers picked up their second win of the season as they routed the Pioneers 40-16 Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers scored touchdowns on six of their seven possessions. Quarterback Brody Dalton was the catalyst on each occasion. Dalton opened his barrage with a nine-yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive of the game to give Chapmanville a 7-0 lead. Following a Wayne three and out, Dalton struck again with 4:22 left in the first quarter when he dashed in from 36 yards out to open a 14-0 Tigers lead.

At the start of the second quarter, Dalton continued to harass the Pioneer defense as he rushed in from 12 yards out this time to up the lead to 20-0. Wayne would then fumble on their ensuing drive, and with a short field Dalton went back to work, rushing in once again from nine yards out to increase the lead to 27-0 with 7:52 left in the first half. The Pioneers would breakthrough for their first score of the game on their next drive when James Damron broke free for a 26-yard touchdown run, one of his two touchdown runs of the night, to cut the lead to 27-8.

Chapmanville would answer back on their next drive. Dalton would find himself free once again from 31 yards out to give the Tigers a 33-8 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Dalton would cap his career night with a passing touchdown as he connected with Will Kirkendoll on a 10-yard touchdown to put the Pioneers away for good.

Friday’s win is only their second win over Wayne since 2004. Chapmanville improved to 2-5 on the season and dropped Wayne to a season 2-6 record.
