Tigers eliminated from postseason by Point Pleasant

POINT PLEASANT  Class AAA No. 7 and No.1 seed Point Pleasant broke a scoreless tie with a three-run fourth inning Saturday evening to eliminate fourth-seeded Chapmanville, 10-0, in six innings in the Class AAA Region 4 tournament.


The Big Blacks (19-9) will host No. 5 and second seeded Winfield in game one of the Class AAA Region 4 championship on Monday at 6 p.m. The Generals (21-6) advanced with a win over Lincoln County, 7-4, on Thursday.


Gavin Barnett and Tre Gillispie each went 3-for-4, Barnett had a double, triple and one RBI and Gillispie doubled and drove in one run while Carrsen Lambert went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs for Point Pleasant.


The Big Blacks got to Chapmanville starter David Browning for three runs in the fourth inning before scoring six more times in the fifth to chase Browning from the game.


Browning allowed six runs on nine hits, walked three and struck out one in 4 2/3 innings.


Trycen Putney allowed five hits, struck out four and walked one in five innings to pick up the win for the Big Blacks. Putney was also 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI at the plate.


Andrew Topping accounted for two of the Tigers (10-17) five hits going 2-for-3 at the plate. Browning and Eli Pridemore each went 1-for-2 and Braylon Moore was 1-for-3.


Zakk Jordan went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored twice, Talan Pearson was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Jackson Redman 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs for the victorious Big Blacks.
