Tigers score on first seven possessions in 56-20 win over Poca

CHAPMANVILLE Chapmanville scored on its first seven possessions Friday night, including six times in the first half, to defeat Poca 56-20 at Barker Field.


The Tigers racked up 434 yards of total offense to start the season 2-0 for the first time since 2015. Chapmanville also improved to 2-0 in the Cardinal Conference, a first since 2015, and defeated Poca for the first time since 2017.


Poca, who fell to 0-2 for the first time since 2017, turned the ball over twice in the first half. The Dots had 249 yards of total offense but was held to 23 yards in the first quarter.


Chapmanville quarterback Brody Dalton completed 18 of 25 passes for 206 yards. Dalton threw three touchdown passes of 17 yards to Adam Mullins, 15 yards to Austin Adkins and 9 yards to Caleb Whitt. Dalton also ran for a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter.


Kohl Farmer carried the ball 21 times for 133 yards and scored three times on runs of 1-yard, 8 yards, and 26 yards while placekicker Jonathan Ferrell was successful on all eight of his point after attempts for the Tigers.


Jordan Wolfe passed for 189 yards and ran for a team high 47 yards on 12 carries for the Dots. Wolfe completed 13 of his 27 passes and threw three touchdown passes of 14 yards to Nathaniel McCormick and Hunter Tusing and 9 yards to Preston Bonnett.


Farmer’s 8-yard touchdown and Dalton’s two touchdown passes, the first a 17-yard hookup with Mullins and a 9-yard scoring strike to Whitt, put Chapmanville up 21-0 after one quarter of play.


Poca got on the board with 9:36 remaining in the first half when Wolfe found Bonnett for a 9-yard touchdown.


Dalton scored on a 1-yard run with 6:35 to play in the first half to give Chapmanville a 28-6.


Wolfe found McCormick for a 14-yard touchdown with 2:22 to play cut the Dots deficit to 28-12, but the deficit swelled to 42-12 when Chapmanville scored two touchdowns in 0:29.


Dalton threw his third touchdown of the first half when he hooked up with Adkins for a 15-yard score with 0:44 remaining. Following a Dot fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the 40, the Tigers needed just three plays to score as Farmer ran in from 1-yard out with 0:15 remaining to give Chapmanville a 42-12 halftime lead.


Farmer’s third touchdown of the game, a 26-yard run with 9:48 to play in the third quarter gave the Tigers a 49-12 lead.


Tusing hauled in a 14-yard pass from Wolfe with 2:27 remaining in the third quarter cut the Tigers lead to 49-20 after Andrew Young’s two-point conversion.


Charles Stallard’s 1-yard touchdown and Ferrell’s eighth extra point with 11:28 remaining the fourth gave Chapmanville a 56-20 advantage.


McCormick hauled in two receptions for 71 yards and Tusing caught four passes for 65 yards for Poca.


Mullins caught seven passes for 82 yards while Adkins reeled in four receptions for 52 yards for Chapmanville, who got 45 rushing yards from Stallard on eight attempts.


Poca will host Independence Friday night at O.O. White Stadium. The Patriots (2-0), who were defeated by Fairmont Senior in last season’s Class AA championship, have outscored the opposition, 100-0, in two games this season.


Chapmanville will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Winfield.
