Tigers Topple Warriors In Tuesday Night Action

In high school basketball action, the Chapmanville Tigers moved to 1-1 on the season, as they defeated the Wyoming East Warriors 39-38 last night at Chapmanville Regional High School.

The Tigers led wire to wire and opened up a 25-13 halftime lead on the strength of 10 of sophomore Brody Dalton's team-high 15 points. Chapmanville's lead swelled to as high as 14 points early in the second half before Wyoming East began to chip away at the deficit by outscoring the Tigers 15-7 in the third quarter to make it 32-28 heading into the final period.

Chapmanville continued to cling to the lead into the final minute when the Warriors had the ball trailing by one with 8 seconds left, but their final attempt to steal the game never came, as Wyoming East never got a shot off, and the Tigers survived for their first win of the year.

Sophomore Isaiah Smith hit four 3 pointers and finished with 14 points for the Tigers, while junior Tanner Whitten led all scorers for Wyoming East with 19 points.

Chapmanville will get back into action Friday night when they host the Nitro Wildcats. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
