Whitman man arrested for threatening to "gut" little league umpire




LOGAN A man was arrested this week for allegedly pulling a knife and threatening an umpire at a little league baseball game


A little league game on the island in Logan got more than heated Monday. Dustin Harvey was umpiring a game and allegedly being heckled and antagonized by 62-year-old Franklin Darby, of Whitman.


According to the complaint filed in Logan Magistrate Court, The umpire removed his equipment and left the playing area. Darby allegedly continued to scream and curse. According to the complaint, Darby produce a knife and allegedly said “I’ll gut you right here.”


The complaint stated Darby left before law enforcement arrived.


Darby charged with brandishing a deadly weapon and assaulting an athletic official both misdemeanors. Bond set at $5,000 on the condition Darby doesn’t enter Logan Board of Education property or little league games.
