The World Health Organization said it does not recommend that pregnant women receive Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.

A statement from the agency said, “While pregnancy puts women at a higher risk of severe COVID-19, the use of this vaccine in pregnant women is currently not recommended, unless they are at risk of high exposure (e.g. health workers).”

The World Health Organization also issued vaccine advisories for children, those near the end of the life, and people with allergies.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued an advisory in December noting that vaccines have not been tested in pregnant women. They said that vaccines should not be withheld from pregnant patients, but that pregnant patients who decline the vaccine “should be supported in their decision.”
