Blevins post double-double in Tigers victory over Pioneers

CHAPMANVILLE Zion Blevins posted a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead Class AA No. 4 Chapmanville to a 65-54 victory over Wayne Saturday night at the Danny Godby Gymnasium.


Blevins scored 18 and Sal Dean added 11 of his 20 in the first half as Chapmanville improved to 7-1 on the season.


Blevins and Dean were also a force on the defensive end with Blevins blocking three shots and Dean posting four steals for Chapmanville, who raced out to a 13-point lead after one quarter of play. The Tigers led by 16 at halftime and extended the lead to 21 points after three quarters.


Ronnie Staley led Wayne with 12 points, while Dillon May and Isaac Meddings had 11 points each. May hauled down seven rebounds while Staley had six rebounds and dished out three assists.


Wayne (4-3), who started the season 4-1, will return home on Monday to face Class A No. 6 Huntington St. Joe’s before traveling to county rival Tolsia on Tuesday.


Chapmanville will host a pair of Class AAA ranked teams starting with Tuesday’s contest with fourth-ranked Scott and concluding with Friday’s tilt with county rival and third-ranked Logan.
