Bryant hurls one-hitter in Lady Wildcats shutout of Lady Miners

DANVILLE Chloe Bryant hurled a one-hitter as Logan staved off elimination Tuesday evening defeating Mingo Central 8-0 in five innings in the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament at Lick Creek Park.


Bryant retired the first nine hitters in the Mingo Central lineup before allowing a fourth inning single to Ava Williams to start the fourth inning. Bryant struck out seven and allowed just the one hit in five innings in the circle.


At the plate, Addison Brumfield, Taylor Noe and Makenna Ooten combined for nine of Logan’s 12 hits, scored five of the Lady Wildcats eight runs and drove in three runs.


Noe was 4-for-4 with a double, one RBI and a run scored while Brumfield was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Ooten finished 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs.


Emma Elkins had one hit and drove in two runs while Lacy Curry and Emilee Mullins each had one hit to go along with one RBI for the Lady Wildcats.


Logan scored two runs in the first inning getting a pair of run-scoring singles from Elkins and Mullins to take a 2-0 lead.


The Lady Wildcats got a run scoring ground out from Elkins to increase their advantage to 3-0 after three innings.


Brumfield scored on an error in the fourth and Curry added an RBI single giving Logan a 5-0 lead.


Logan got a two-run triple for Ooten in the fifth and a run-scoring infield single from Noe to end the contest after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.


Williams allowed eight runs on 12 hits in 4 2/3 innings while striking out one and walking one in the circle for Mingo Central, who ended the season with a 5-17 record.
