Chapmanville secures four-shot win over reigningchampion Cabell Midland ingolf tri-match

BARBOURSVILLE Chapmanville shot a team total of 145 to secure its sixth victory and defeat reigning Class AAA champion Cabell Midland by four strokes Thursday evening in a tri-match at the Esquire Golf Club.
The Tigers placed four golfers in the top seven and won for the fifth time in their last eight matches. Since placing second in a quad match at the Edgewood Country Club on August 14, Chapmanville has finished in the top two in eight straight matches.
Chapmanville senior Justus Mann had four birdies and one bogey on his way to a three-under 33 to claim individual medalist honors. For Mann, it was the sixth time this season that he has fired the low round of the day. Mann’s 33 was one shot off his season best of 32 that he shot in a tri-match with Sherman and Tug Valley at the Logan County Club on August 18.
Chapmanville freshman Cooper Evans shot a 36, one off his season best of 35 that he shot in a tri-match with Logan and Sherman on August 11, tied for second with Cabell Midland senior Carson Sergent.
Sergent was one of four Knights to finish in the top 10 as last season’s Class AAA champions, who is competing as a Class AAAA school this in West
Virginia’s four classification system, finished with a team total of 149, four shots behind Chapmanville.
Charleston Catholic, the third team in the match, led by senior Will Gruse, who carded a 37, fired a team total of 162 and was 17 shots back of the Tigers.
Gruse and Cabell Midland sophomore Jackson Foster tied for fourth overall. Charleston Catholic senior Ben Carew and Chapmanville seniors Gavin Stollings and Isaac Walters tied for seventh with a 38 and Cabell Midland sophomore Wyatt Maynard finished 10 th with a nine-hole total of 39.
Chapmanville senior Cameron Wooten was 11 th after carding a 40 and sophomore Zeke Tiller shot a 48 to finish 17 th .
Chapmanville returns to the links Wednesday evening in a tri match with Class AAAA state championship contenders Hurricane and Cabell Midland at the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.
