Charges pressed against man in Boone County shooting

JEFFREY An arrest was made in connection to a shooting Sunday near Jeffrey, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.


Shooting was reported at Bias Branch. Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and found a man in the road way on his back, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim was conscious and alleged he was shot by 30-year-old David Cales of Jeffery.


According to the complaint, the two men were in the midst of a confrontation when it escalated and Cales allegedly shot the victim in the abdominal area. Victim was airlifted to a hospital.


Shooter was located at another residence where a handgun was also obtained. The pistol was concealed in an oven mitt, according to the complaint.


Cales was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.


Investigation is still ongoing.
