COVID Cases Postpone School Start in Martin County, Ky.



Martin County Schools postponed the first day of the school year.


Last Friday, the school district released a statement that clarified the start of the school year Is postponed until Wednesday, August 18. The school delay is due to an increase in cases of COVID-19 recently in Martin County.


According to the Martin County Health Department, the county has experienced a spike of 26 new infections since July 23. Health Department Director Steve Ward reported that eight more cases of the virus have been discovered through laboratory testing today, but a final update will not be available until later today.


Martin County has 33 active cases of the virus, 1,097 recoveries, 20 deaths and a cumulative total of 1,150 cases of COVID-19
