An eastern Kentucky man is in jail after he allegedly shot at a trooper.

The incident happened in Pike County on Sunday morning.

According to reports, police responded to a call of a man threatening harm to himself and his father on the 800 block of Winns Branch.

When troopers arrived, 33-year-old Cory Whitehead allegedly went to a room for a gun.

When he was asked to put the gun down, Whitehead reportedly refused, leading to an exchange of gunfire between a trooper and himself.

Whitehead was shot in the hand in the exchange. No one else was harmed.

He was taken into custody and treated at a local hospital. Later he was transferred to Pike County Detention Center.

Whitehead faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
