Logan virus update: 1 new death, active cases below 100, vaccinations ramp up

Active cases of coronavirus well below 100 today as health officials ramp up vaccinations.

Currently, Logan has 71 active cases of the virus.

A total of 27 people were cleared for recovery over the weekend and six additional infections were reported.

Mask wearing and three vaccines developed in the last year have contributed to the overall positive outlook currently in the county. Deaths have slowed greatly but are still very real possibilities.

Logan reported another death Friday evening. Health Department Director Steve Browning confirmed the death of a 71-year-old female. Since the onset of the outbreak, 82 Logan residents have succumbed to the virus.

Ten people remain hospitalized.

A Free COVID-19 vaccine clinic will be conducted before the Logan/Man basketball game at Willie Akers Arena tonight.
