Logan wins a pair of games in King Coal Classic

HINTON Class AAA No. 3 Logan picked up a pair of wins over the weekend in the King Coal Classic at the famed Willie Akers Arena.


The Wildcats defeated Mingo Central, 70-54, on Friday night and capped off a perfect week with a dominating victory over the Wesley Christian National team, 69-42, Saturday evening.


Logan improved its record to 5-1 on the year and has won three straight games since a 58-46 defeat to second ranked Fairmont Senior on Dec. 10.

Browning scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half and hit six 3's in a convincing victory.


Logan led by 15 at halftime, but an 8-3 Wesley Christian run to start the third quarter brought the Circuit Riders to within 10 points, 31-21, on Adame Ouertani's basket with 6:00 remaining.


Browning scored 10 points in a span of 2:17 to push the Wildcats advantage to 20 points, 44-24, following his four-point play with 2:07 to play in the third.


The Circuit Riders closed the gap to 15 once more in the fourth, but Logan pushed its lead 24 on Browning's 3 with under 3:00 to play.


Sackey Sefa led Wesley Christian with 11 points while Tommy Incremona finished with 10 and Ouertani and Matej Prising each had six points for the Circuit Riders.


Scotty Browning finished with 19 points and Julius Clancy had 10 while Ivan Miller scored seven points for Logan.

Logan 70, Mingo Central 54: Four of five Logan starters scored in double figures as Logan overcame a first quarter deficit to defeat Mingo Central.


Mingo Central led 16-15 after one quarter, but Logan outscored the Miners 15-8 in the second quarter and led 30-24 at halftime. The Wildcats outscored the visitors 40-30 in the second half to pull away for the 16-point victory.


Scotty Browning led Logan (4-1) with a game high 26 points. Julius Clancy had 14 points and Ivan Miller and Garrett Williamson each had 10 points for the Wildcats.


Matt Hatfield led Mingo Central (2-2) with 18 points while Jake Cline scored 14 and Chris Ross added 13 for the Miners.
