CLEAR FORK Devon Sanders rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns and Westside held on to defeat Man 18-12 Friday night at the Burial Ground.

The Renegades (2-1) led 18-0 on Sanders’ 31-yard touchdown with 5:24 to play before Man scored two straight touchdowns to pull within six, and had a third potential touchdown stopped at the Renegade one as time expired.

Jake Endicott scored on a 10-yard run with 3:06 to play to get Man on the scoreboard and cut the deficit to 18-6.

Man was able to stop Westside on downs, and Kaleb Mullins tossed a 36-yard touchdown to Endicott with 0:43 remaining to bring the Hillbillies within six, 18-12.

Following an onside kick recovery on the ensuing kickoff, Man quarterback Guille Perez completed a pair of 10-yard passes to Josh Spriggs and Endicott to move the Hillbillies to the Renegade 29 with 0:17 to play.

Facing a 3rd-and-10, Perez, on the run, heaved a pass that was knocked down short of the goal line as time ran out on the clock, however, the officials ruled that there was one second left, giving the Hillbillies one last attempt at a game tying touchdown.

On the final play, Perez found Gavin Bartram, who hauled in the pass the Renegade 3, but tackled by Brayden Waldron and Evan Elswick at the one ending the game after Westside declined a holding penalty on Man.

Sanders scored on a one-yard run to give Westside a 6-0 lead with 4:38 to play in the first quarter. Sanders’ second 1-yard run gave the Renegades a 12-0 lead with 4:06 to play in the third quarter.

Westside overcame three first half redzone turnovers and turned the Hillbillies over seven times.

Mullins rushed for 86 yards on 19 carries and Endicott added 32 yards on six rushes. Perez completed 7 of 16 passes for 120 yards for Man.

Josh Spriggs caught four passes for 41 yards and Endicott and John Osborne each had two receptions for 47 yards for the Hillbillies.

Westside travels to PikeView Friday night while Man (1-2) returns to action Friday evening hosting Mingo Central (3-0) in the school’s annual Hall of Fame game at William “Tootie” Carter Field at George A. Queen Memorial Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
