CHARLESTON Slade Barton, a 2026 West Virginia University commit, struck out 13 batters Tuesday night to Class AAAA No. 3 George Washington to a 2-1 win over Class AA No. 2 Logan Tuesday night at Wilcox Field.
Barton threw 103 pitches, 69 for strikes, allowed one run on five hits, walked one and hit a pair.
George Washington (24-7) did just enough against a quadrivium of Wildcat pitchers. Levi Kazee started for Logan (23-3) and tossed the first two innings allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout and one walk.
William Bryant pitched the third and fourth innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit while striking out four and walking three. Cross Conn allowed two hits and struck out one in one inning of relief and Ivan Miller struck out two and allowed one hit in his only inning of relief.
Tied 1-1 after two innings, George Washington scored the winning run of Bryant when Chuck Kelley reached on an error by shortstop Landon Hall allowing Jon Fala to score from second base.
Logan took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when McCormick Ilderton was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Tanner Akers. The Patriots tied it in the bottom of the second on Joel Nelson's single to center to score Kelley.
Logan threatened to even the score in the top of sixth but came up empty when Bentley Williamson was caught stealing home on an attempted double steal. With two outs and Tanner Akers standing 90 feet away at third base, Barton got Rob Ball to strike out ending the inning.
Akers, Gage Hensley, Jaxon McClung, Williamson and Jayce Wolfe all had one hit each for Logan and Ilderton had one RBI.
Luke Gordon had a pair of hits for George Washington. Nelson had one hit and one RBI, Barton, Fala and Hunter Stewart each had one hit.
Logan will return to action Thursday afternoon when the welcome county rival and Class A No. 3 Man to Roger E. Gertz Field for a doubleheader. Game one will start at 4 p.m. with game two to follow at 7 p.m.
