Switzer Funeral Home Director Passed Away at 63

A long-time Logan County mortician and funeral director died Wednesday.

Dale Collins was the owner, operator and director for Collins Funeral Home of Switzer.

Collins graduated from Chapmanville High School with the class of 1976. He worked as a coal miner for five years before earning a degree in Mortuary Science from the Mid-American College of Funeral Services in Jefferson, Ind.

Collins began his mortuary career at Slater-Gilliam Funeral Home at Switzer. He eventually purchased the business. Collins Funeral Home was established and will continue forward under the direction of his daughter, Olivia.

Collins was a respected man not only in the mortuary trade, but also in his community. He was a devoted member of the Monahill Memorial Freewill Baptist Church.

He so often was the man there for families during a time of great pain when a loved one passed. That community now mourns his passing.

Services will be conducted one o’clock Monday afternoon at the Monahill Memorial Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Joseph Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

A visitation will take place Sunday night between 6 p.m. and 9p.m at the church.
