April 15 would normally be the tax filing deadline. However, that date has been extended to May 17.
The extension was put in place to give the IRS and those who need to file taxes time to sort out new guidelines on tax exemption on unemployment money.
For anyone who thinks they won't be able to meet the May 17 deadline, there is an option to request an additional extension through the West Virginia state tax department. Even with an extension, you will still have to pay any interest accrued starting from May 18.
