MAN Bo Thompson tossed a five-hitter, Preston Blankenship drove in three runs and Class A No. 3 Man defeated Charleston Catholic 11-1 in six innings Tuesday night at William Tootie Carter Field.

Thompson carried a shutout into the sixth inning before Michael Ferrell’s run-scoring single.

Thompson struck out 10, walked one and threw just 90 pitches to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Blankenship had two hits and three RBIs while Braxton Messer had two hits for Man, who also got two RBIs from Jace Adkins, and one hit and one RBI each from Brady Hall-Montgomery, Thompson, and Caleb Vance and one hit from Colton Miller.

Man added to its lead with a pair of runs in the second inning getting RBIs from Adkins and Vance for a 3-0 lead.

The game remained that way until Man plated two more runs in the fifth when Hall-Montgomery scored on an error to give the Hillbillies a 4-0 lead. Thompson delivered a run-scoring single to make it 5-0 after five innings.

Catholic got on the board in the sixth inning, but Man put the game away with a six-run sixth inning.

Blankenship’s two-run double put Man on top 7-1 and Hall-Montgomery followed with a run-scoring single and eventually came around to score on a series of Catholic miscues to increase Man’s lead to 9-1.

Drake Veres scored on a throwing error and Adkins grounded into a fielder’s choice ending the contest due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Messer crossed the plate three times for Man while Hall-Montgomery and Veres each touched the dish twice for the Hillbillies.
