Tuesday Marks Highest Positive Test Rate In W.Va. Since May

The state reported one of its largest one-day totals of new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 257 new cases in the 24 hours and eight additional COVID-19 deaths raising the state’s overall death toll to 222. There have been 23 deaths in the past seven days. Active cases grew by 103 Monday to 2,122.

West Virginia’s daily positive test rate Tuesday was at 6.85%, the highest since May 26 when the rate was 6.95%.

The state lists 141 residents hospitalized with the virus. Forty-nine of them are in ICU and 25 on ventilators.

The county alert map has Monroe County as ‘red’ and Kanawha, Logan, Monongalia, Fayette and Mingo counties in the ‘orange’ category. All other counties are either ‘yellow’ or ‘green.’
