W.Va. new cases slowly ascend as vaccine injections slow down


The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 400 new cases of coronavirus in the Mountain State.


There were eight new deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Since the onset of the outbreak, 2,808 West Virginians have succumbed to COVID-19


W.Va. has 7,324 active cases of COVID-19. Today’s daily infection rate is 4.04%.


Governor Justice said Wednesday the state has now given at least one shot of vaccine to over half the eligible population.


According to the governor, officials have determined the total of the state’s population eligible for vaccine is 1,470,000.


If accurate, the state has 50.9% of those eligible for vaccine to receive at least one shot.


More than 690,000 have received the first round of vaccine and near 530,000 have been fully vaccinated.


Approximately 77% the vaccinated are residents aged 65 and over.
